PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO – August 19, 2026

Senator the Honourable Dominic Smith, Minister of Public Administration and Artificial Intelligence was formally presented with the physical CANTO Ministerial Award for ICT Leadership and Digital Transformation by Chairman of iGovTT, Ms. Ria Karim.

Minister Smith was recognised with the inaugural CANTO Ministerial Award for ICT Leadership and Digital Transformation during the Caribbean Association of National Telecommunication Organisations (CANTO) conference held in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic earlier this month. The award recognises his leadership and contribution to advancing Trinidad and Tobago’s digital transformation agenda and represents an important regional acknowledgement of the country’s growing role in digital transformation.

As Minister Smith was unable to attend the conference in person, Chairman Karim accepted the physical award on his behalf. The Minister subsequently conveyed his appreciation to CANTO through a video message, highlighting the broader significance of the recognition for the Caribbean and the shared ambition across the region to achieve better government services, stronger digital economies and better digital societies.

Chairman Karim noted that the award is a significant recognition of the work being undertaken to position technology and digital capability as critical enablers of national development.

iGovTT congratulates Minister Smith once again on this significant regional recognition and looks forward to continuing to support Trinidad and Tobago’s digital transformation journey.
